I now have to visit my friends and tell them that I’ve installed malware on their systems. Ok, the video editing software itself may be functional and perform its task well, but surely an in-application reminder (upon launch as is usual) would suffice, without having to bloat the OS? This sort of software should be boycotted until the developers learn to code honestly. This software, whilst it maybe not spam, virus, trojan, nor malware as such, still sticks more code and hooks into the operating system than I am comfortable with, as well as having a reputation for being bloatware. accounting applications and others, aside from the Videopad folder in the start menu there was also a NCH Software folder, which also rang alarm bells. I had previously noticed that on the Windows machines, there was way more software than just Videopad installed, i.e. Maybe reboot is required? launchctl stop .CacheDeleteAll
Removing this sudo launchctl remove .CacheDeleteAll So, there is a scheduled launchd to get you to be prompted. So, I had a look for scheduled tasks: $ launchctl list | grep nch Moving to the trash just wouldn’t be sufficient. I realised that there must be something else running in order for the application to open of its own accord. I then immediately deleted the application, by moving it into the trash, as the uninstall page advises.Įven though it does seem easier to remove on OS X rather than Windows, see Is software from NCH Software safe?, I wondered if it had hooked into some other software. However, I found that I had to Force Quit the application to make it go away. I declined to pay (clicking the “Continue to use free VideoPad” option). This sort of random auto-launching application is not only out of the ordinary, uncalled for, damn invasive and rude. However, one night, whilst watching a movie on my MBP, VideoPad just popped open with a bland dialog asking me to pay (I wish I’d taken a screenshot). Unfortunately, in retrospect, I even installed it on some friends’ notebooks (Windows 7 and 10). I recall that the download site seemed rather badly put together and weird but I installed it anyway, on to my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.13.6).
